Apprenticeships offer the ideal balance of gaining valuable experience in a real setting to build your expertise from day one, all while receiving a salary and having your qualification funded.


We offer two apprenticeship programmes at Hill Dickinson:


  1. Paralegal apprenticeship, with opportunities to progress to solicitor apprenticeship.
  2. Business apprenticeship, specialising in HR, finance, IT or marketing.

Our apprenticeships

The paralegal apprenticeship is a two-year programme that gives you the chance to start your legal career without going to university. You’ll spend those two years specialising in one practice area, which we’ll align with your interests and strengths.

 

You’ll complete modules in Client Care, Contract Law and Commercial Practice, and at the end of your two years you will have achieved a Certificate of Higher Education in Law and Legal Practice. 

When you’ve completed your paralegal apprenticeship, there will be a number of career progression opportunities available to you, including paralegal roles within our team, the solicitor apprenticeship and further CILEx studies.

 

For September 2026, our Paralegal Apprenticeship opportunities are as follows:

 

    • Costs – Manchester
    • Corporate and Commercial – Liverpool and London
    • Marine – London

 

The Costs team are built up of experienced costs litigation professionals based across London, Liverpool and Manchester. With extensive experience of dealing with high value costs ligation, costs budgeting, appeals, group litigation and technical challenges. Our experienced advocates regularly attend national court hearings across the country.

 

The Corporate and Commercial teams are trusted advisers to owner-managers, family businesses, growth companies and international investors, bringing partner-led expertise to every deal, at every stage of their business journey.

 

The Marine team deliver expert support in shipping, ports and terminals, insurance, commodities trading and finance and offshore projects. Our experience in the yacht and superyacht sector is comprehensive, assisting clients with almost every aspect of superyacht ownership and operation.

 

Entry requirements for a paralegal apprenticeship:

 

Five GCSEs at grade C or grade 4 and above; 96 UCAS points.

Our Business Professionals department – made up of HR, Finance, IT & Operations and Business Development and Marketing teams – is based in Liverpool. The department supports our colleagues across all practice areas so they can deliver exceptional client service.

 

Apprenticeship opportunities in our Business professionals teams include:

 

  • HR, achieving CIPD qualifications
  • Finance, achieving AAT and ICAEW qualifications
  • Business Development and Marketing, achieving DMI qualifications

 

Once you complete your apprenticeship, you could step into a key business role within our teams, or continue your journey with further apprenticeships to build a long-term, rewarding career. Please note that these opportunities are only available in Liverpool.

 

For September 2026, our Business Professionals opportunities are as follows:

 

    • Finance apprenticeship


This apprenticeship is a two-year structured training programme based in our Liverpool office, studying towards the AAT qualification with further opportunities beyond this. Over the initial two years, you will rotate around the varying departments that make up the finance team, including billing, accounts payable, credit control, cash, management accounts and reporting.

 

Entry requirements for a finance apprenticeship:

Five GCSEs at grade C or grade 4 and above; 96 UCAS points

Eligibility Criteria


We want to make sure this apprenticeship is the right opportunity for you. To apply, you’ll need to meet all of the eligibility requirements below, which are linked to funding the apprenticeship. If you’re unsure whether you qualify, we encourage you to review the criteria carefully before applying.


You’ll be eligible if you:


  • Are under 22, or
  • Are under 25 and have an Education, Health and Care (EHC) plan, and/or are currently in, or have previously been, local authority care.
  • Are not currently studying for another apprenticeship or degree.
  • Have lived in the UK for the past three years.
  • Have the right to live and work permanently in the UK for the full duration of the apprenticeship.
