We all know that applying for positions can be a daunting task. To help you prepare for, and make the most of, your experience with Hill Dickinson, here are some useful tips to keep in mind during the application process.
Artificial intelligence (AI) has quickly become a part of our everyday lives, providing us with exciting and innovative opportunities to redefine the way in which we work.
When it comes to the application process, AI tools can be valuable in further explaining what to expect during the process, helping to better understand a question you have been posed and providing a structure to, or refining, your response.
Our application process relies on getting to know you, and in particular what makes you different. The reason you’re attracted to a career in law and starting that career at Hill Dickinson will be different to the person applying next to you – it’s this individuality that will help you stand out, by showcasing your strengths and demonstrating how you align with our values. A response generated entirely by AI is not going to be able to factor in the individual experiences you’ve had and the personal knowledge you have gained, and it’s this detail that takes your response to the level needed to progress in the process.
We’re looking for future trainees and apprentices who are aware of and willing to embrace our digital reality, but there is no typical Hill Dickinson trainee and so we would encourage you to think about what really sets you apart when engaging with the application process.
If you’re looking to start your career at Hill Dickinson, you’ll need to show strong communication skills, the capacity to manage multiple projects, and a passion for analysing information to create innovative solutions. We’re seeking commercially minded people who thrive on building trusted relationships.
As a leading commercial law firm, we count on our people to be in tune with our clients’ needs and to understand exactly how to deliver on them.
We value a diverse workforce and are committed to recruiting the best talent from across all backgrounds. Our Early Careers team carefully reviews every application before making any decisions.
Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) are at the heart of our values and firmwide culture. That’s why we ensure every step of the recruitment process is unbiased, with decisions based purely on merit.
We also know that achievements don’t always look the same on paper, so instead of setting minimum academic requirements, we proudly use the REAL rating contextual recruitment tool which accounts for the context in which your grades were achieved. That way, your talents and potential remain at the centre of the selection process.
We’re proud to partner with Aspiring Solicitors, the 10,000 Interns Foundation and Bright Network. These organisations share our commitment to advancing EDI and nurturing exceptional talent from all backgrounds.
We’re proud to partner with the 10,000 Interns Foundation, supporting their mission to create 10,000 internship opportunities for Black students and graduates across 25 sectors.
Since joining the initiative in 2021, we’ve been part of an incredible journey – culminating in the Foundation reaching its goal of 10,000 placements in 2025. But we’re not stopping there.
For summer 2026, we’re continuing to offer a six-week internship in each of our Liverpool, Manchester, London and Leeds offices. These placements provide hands-on experience, mentorship and a meaningful introduction to the world of work.
